On behalf of the Education and Science Union (GEW), we conducted the largest survey in Germany on the psychological stress faced by school leaders between 2023 and 2025. With 7,364 participants from 14 federal states, the study provides the first comprehensive national picture based on the COPSOQ, supplemented by specific questions for schools and school leaders.
Reference values from the COPSOQ database were used as a comparison for the stress levels of school leadership: teachers, employees in public administration, and the overall value for all professions.
The results of the study were also presented in press conferences held by the participating state associations, which highlighted the findings for each federal state.
